The map above shows a similar area to the Blue Marble images .
Almaty is top centre left. This was our starting point. The Inylchek Glacier is bottom right and we flew in here by helecopter from Kakara camp which is near the kink in the border, center right. The map below right shows the route we followed on the first section of the trek. Below is the area of the Inylchek glacier we stayed on. Pobedy is the highest at 7439m and Khan Tengri at 6995m. There were three permanent camps here catering mainly for climbers but it made a very comfortable spot for trekkers. It even had a sauna. The camp was at about 4200m. |
