Kangchunga Base Camp

Kangchenjunga

This was our second trek with World Expeditions. Starting in Kathmandu we then took a short flight to Tumlingtar where the walking started.

The picture above was taken from Pang Pema, the base camp for Kangchenjunga. At 8598m it is the third highest peak in the world. The summit is the peak to the left.

We arrived here on 27th October 1999 .

The Slide button links to a flash slide show of the trek. Pressing the rightmost button on the viewer will give a full screen view. There is a music track to go with it. These photos were taken with compact 35mm cameras and are a bit grainy.

The log to the right links to a written, day by day account of the trek. There are some more pictures here, mostly taken from the video.

The mountain links to a computer generated look at the trek. There are animations, panoramas and photo comparisons. You will find more of this sort of thing in the "Rendered Hills" section.

The map below is a Google map of the area with the route and some of the main camps marked. Zoom out to see the location and in for more detail. The satellite view is also available. Pan around with your mouse by dragging.
