Kalopani Panorama

previous
next

This is a cubic panorama generated at the fourteenth camp at Kalopani (black water) on the Kali Gandaki. The initial view is looking downstream. Pan 90 deg to the right (west) to see Dhaulagiri (8167m). The big, distant peak to the east is Annapurna 1 (8091m). It is these two peaks that make the Kali Gandaki the worlds deepest gorge, the floor being about 2000m gives a vertical depth of 6Km. Ferocious winds funnel between them making life uncomfortable after midday. (I know I was there)

Use the buttons below the view to change camps. Alternatively, go back to the map.

All these panoramas were rendered in World Construction set 6 with a landsat overlay. The data is 90m DEMS patched by Jonathan de Ferranti (see "Rendered Hills" page).Use the mouse to swing the camera around and <Shift> and <Ctrl> to zoom in and out. The buttons along the bottom allow for these actions as well as auto rotate and the button to the right will give a very good full screen view, in this mode use the buttons for zooming. IE does not seem to handel this as well as Firefox3. The compass in the top right also shows the field of view. The path lines are derived from GPS tracks taken at the time. Blue was morning and red afternoon.

The output was generated with Pano2VR from Gardengnomesoftware.
